SIC Athlete Update: Caio Vaz 3rd at SUP 11 City Tour & PPG

Posted by SIC Maui on

FRIESLAND, Netherlands - SIC Global Team Athlete Caio Vaz took home 3rd place in the Men's Open Class of the SUP 11 City Tour: The Ultimate Challenge 2017 in Holland. Vaz's overall total time for 3rd place overall was 19:44:38 over the 4 days race.

"It was an amazing experience," said Vaz. "I never thought I would paddle that much in my life, and it just happened! Hahaha! My strategy was to start with the leader pack and stay with them. When I started getting tired I would just continue on my rhythm. To only think of good things was important as well. It was really cool!"

"The 9th edition of SUP 11 City Tour this year is one to remember for multiple reasons," explained Hasan Ismail.

"It was the toughest and wettest one according to both athletes and organizers. It’s the first time that the 1st stage of race had to be cancelled due to gale force winds and storms predicted. To my wife and kids who have sacrificed so much time for me to train and be on the water to prepare for this race. I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH AND THANK YOU!"

Vaz is currently continuing his SUP surfing training in Portugal. When asked if he'd be headed to California for the Pacific Paddle Games, Vaz let us know what was next on the schedule for the mighty Brazilian.

"I dont think I will be able to go to PPG, but I'm really excited to race the Red Bull Contest in San Francisco. In that event we race some big waves on the first part of the race!"
