martin vitry wins french national sup championships

Martin Vitry was crowned French National 12'6 Stand Up Paddle champion this weekend at the ninth running of the French 12'6 National Championships, an event split between Bordeaux and the legendary spot at Lacanau, winning both the Long Distance and Technical Race disciplines. It all got under way on Saturday on the massive waters of the river Garonne in the heart of downtown Bordeaux. More than 180 paddlers were on the water for the French National SUP 12'6 Race Championships Long Distance. The course ran downstream, passing under all Bordeaux's main bridges along the way.

Martin Vitry paddled away from his nearest rivals, Tom Auber from Normandy and Noïc Gariou, all the way from New Caledonia, to win by a comfortable margin. Next day's Technical Race, originally planned to take place on the open sea, had to be moved inland to the lake beach at Moutchic because there was way too much swell. Martin Vitry took his second victory, this time much more closely fought out against Noïc Gariou, completing the 5.1km course in a little over 30 minutes to retain his title in the discipline.

These two wins, added to the 14' Long Distance title he won the previous weekend, confirm his excellent form just two weeks before he flies off with the French team to participate at the forthcoming World Championships in China. They also confirm the excellent performance of his brand new boards, the SIC RS 12'6 x 23"1/2 and the SIC RS 14' x 21"1/2.

Heading into the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championships in China, Martin is looking stronger than ever. Stay tuned for highlights on all the SIC Team action in China later this month. All photos courtesy: Alba - French Calamars.
