Puerto Rican SIC Ambassador Mariecarmen Rivera Earns Bronze At Pan American Games
It was a historic week for the sport of stand up paddling with it’s debut in the first-ever Pan American Games for SUP and surfing in Lima, Peru. Puerto Rican SIC Ambassador Mariecarmen Rivera was among the elite SUP racers that qualified for the 2019 event.
Representing her home country of Puerto Rico in the women’s SUP Racing discipline, Mariecarmen was hot from the start, closely trailing USA's Candice Appleby and Brazil's Lena Ribeira throughout the five kilometer, three lap race that featured a challenging section through the surf zone at Punto Rocas. Maneuvering skillfully through the waves and open ocean, Mariecarmen crossed the finish line in just over 35 minutes to earn a hard-fought Bronze Medal.
“I thank all those who have supported me and have sent me their good wishes! It's a pride to represent [Puerto Rico] I'm super happy!!!! Today was finally the award and it was an amazing and unforgettable experience,” wrote Mariecarmen in a celebratory Facebook post following the awards ceremony.
Congratulations to Mariecarmen on a historic achievement!
