SIC MAUI Joins the Fight with Stand Up for the Cure

EAST TO WEST COAST, USA - SIC Maui came together over the weekend Starting Friday 8/28 - Sunday 8/30 to participate virtually for Stand Up for the Cure. SIC Maui was able to raise $5,000 in donations to help this charitable cause; with groups participating from coast to coast, both fundraising while competing to be the “pinkest” group present.

"When SIC Maui got the call from SUFTC that they were behind on fundraising, we knew SIC needed to step up to the plate, so we asked the Ambassador team for their help. What we got was a sea of pink in SIC boards nationwide. From West to East Coast, small paddling groups formed, open for anyone to join. Global Brand Manager Anthoy Scaturro and The Paddle Academy’s Mike Eisert hosted in California, Athlete Campbell Carter hosted in North Carolina, Joel Yang hosted in Hood River, OR and I did a traveling Stand Up for the Cure road show of sorts, hosting three - two in MA and one in RI. A plethora of ambassadors paddled solo or with their families as well. It was wonderful to see the team band together and help out during these difficult COVID times,” says Casi Rynkowski.

Usually throughout the year Stand Up for the Cure holds 4 fundraising events in-person all across the country to help raise funds for grants for women in need of breast cancer screening; however due to COVID these events had to be canceled. Along with this, many of these women have been financially impacted by COVID themselves, with limited resources and insurance to afford this critical health screening.

Stand Up for the Cure was set up as a virtual event this year due to COVID, and paddlers could participate while practicing social distancing. Participation did not have to be on a paddleboard, either. We had people that decided to kayak it, row it, and prone paddle it; they wanted to push themselves across the water in whatever way they knew how to show their support.

SIC Maui was stoked about how the event went and the success that came with it. We definitely can’t wait to do this next year and hope to see more of you join us on supporting Stand Up for the Cure.

Stand Up for the Cure is a nonprofit organization focused on the support of all women getting the access to breast cancer screening. This organization also allows women to have a support community when going through this process, so that they know they are not alone in this. Stand Up for the Cure was founded in 2011 and is only funded through gracious donations from sponsors, partners, vendors, and volunteers who truly take their time in making this event possible year after year. Stand Up for the Cure has raised $1.3 Million to date allowing local breast cancer programs and research to be performed for these women. If you are still interested in donating to such an amazing cause, fundraising is still open until October 31, 2020. Donate HERE.
