planing and downwind sup is the MTB bike of SUP by sic maui

Standard Characteristics: Considered the mountain bike of the water, planing hull boards have no limits on where they can go. These boards are most recognizable by their flat planing bottom, pointed nose and pin tail shapes. While the original shapes were derived from open ocean and downwind designs, these shapes have proved to be the most well rounded, sea-worthy, allaround shapes in SUP. Planing boards have less rocker than a surfboard which means they track and glide very well although not as well as a displacement hull. They are designed to excel in cross-chop, side-chop with a tail wind or wave scenarios and can be surfed in small to mid size waves. If you are looking for a board with unbridled access to any condition for unlimited fun, then there is no better design.

  1. BULLET 11'0

The Bullet 11.0 is truly a one of a kind board in the 11 foot range. Derived from its larger Bullet series counterparts, this board is the ideal companion for the lightweight paddlers who are looking for an all-round board. Due to its lightweight and EZ-Grab handle, it is easy to load on and off the car for transport. The main focus lies on recreational fitness paddling. Regardless of your intended use: flat-water fitness, open ocean gliding or small wave surfing, there is no better board in the world that covers all these disciplines as well as the Bullet 11.0.

  2. BULLET 12'6

The Bullet 12.6 has taken on its own identity in the world of SUP. A scaled down version of the Bullet 14, this board is the mountain bike of the water. Whether looking for a board that glides with ease around the harbor or you want to catch some bumps in the open ocean or lake, the Bullet 12 is for you. The Bullet 12 can often be seen in local surf lineups on smaller days, as this board can do it all. This makes it perhaps, the most well rounded board in the world. If you don’t want to have multiple boards in your quiver then you want the Bullet 12.6.

  3. BULLET 14'0

The Bullet 14.0 is one of the most winning downwind boards in the world. This master of open water has also proven to be one of the most versatile fitness and touring boards in our line. With slightly more rocker and volume than the Bullet 14V2, this board is more stable and forgiving than its flatter rockered counterpart, the V2. The additional rocker allows the board to fit nicely into the wave troughs and maneuver with ease on the face. It is less likely to pearl its nose in the gangliest of conditions and makes beach landings in pounding shore break negotiable. The full volume rails and rail tuck give the board more glide and stability with ease over slop and side chop.

  5. BULLET (SCC) 14'0

The Bullet 14.0 V2 is the ultimate downwind racing machine. This board is offered with and without the SIC F.A.S.T. Steering. The outline’s widest point has been shifted slightly forward and the rocker flattened, which provides the rider with better stability when powering up in lower wind ranges and smaller chop. You would think that straighter rocker would cause the board to pearl easily, however, the narrowed tail brings the nose up, mitigating purling and unlocking top end speed by reducing wetted surface area. The board has slightly lower volume than the Bullet 14 TWC, but maintains its iconic full volume rails and gradual tuck to promote stability, which incidentally also reduces paddler fatigue over long races or touring distances

  9. AIR GLIDE BULLET 17'4
Due to the success of its composite counterpart, in 2016 SIC introduced the inflatable Bullet 14.0 Air-Glide. Of course not everyone has the space to store one or the vehicle to transport a 14.0 composite board. Therefore there was a demand for the Bullet 14.0 Air-Glide. Having said that, a 17.4 composite board takes up even more space. So for 2018 SIC will also be offering its iconic Bullet 17.4 in an Air-Glide construction. Now you can hop in a taxi and catch a ride, pump up your Bullet 17.4 Air-Glide and catch some glides. Next stop Tokyo. Learn More
  10. BAYONET 12'6

The Bayonet Series is not a replacement for the Bullet Series; it is an evolution with a focus on taking all that is good in the Bullet and pushing the limits of what is possible in the Bayonet. With the intended paddler being more accomplished and likely a competitive paddler and/or serious touring and fitness paddler. The Bayonet is the answer to the demands of our elite team and focuses on early planing capability and top-end speed. The Bayonet continues SIC’s legacy of having the fastest downwind boards in the world. These boards plane early in sub twenty mph winds, and stay on glide longer, edge well in cross chop and have tremendous rail-to-rail steering when on a bump or wave. They do take a bit more agility with the squarer rail shape which promote stability on the narrow widths. The have a bit less under tuck and therefore are not as forgiving as the Bullets. The lower rocker profile means that the boards are extremely fast at low speed but do require a bit more agility to maneuver back to the tail when on plane and to mitigate nose poke.
