Sun, waves and a welcoming atmosphere - the perfect mix for a successful surfing contest! After the first stage in Perros-Guirec was cancelled, SIC Maui and the Brittanny Surf School invited the competitors to meet up on the beach at Kérou in Clohars Carnoët (France).
With the previous day’s storm behind, the heats got rolling on Sunday under a beautiful blue sky with waves of one meter and a light south-westerly wind. Thanks to the outstanding organization by the ESB Kloar staff, competitors of all ages and levels were able to express themselves on the SIC Maui one-design surfboards, manufactured in France, and have maximum fun.

" We’re delighted to be on Kérou beach for the first stage of the SIC Surf Challenge. It’s a really exciting concept: a one-design competition, with everyone surfing on the same board. There’s the Drifter 7’4 for the under-16s and the longboard 9’0 for the over-16s. Whatever your level, it’s a real opportunity to share and have fun. Experienced competitors, amateur surfers and youngsters can surf together, which is quite unusual.
As is often the case with one-design competitions, it’s a great way of spotting new talent. You can really see some talent coming through, especially little Léo from Guidel (France, South Brittanny) who made a big impression in the first round this morning and ended up winning the competition! And then there’s the girls, the guys, the inter-generational mix - it’s everything we love about surfing. We’ve been blessed by the weather because it’s a great day with a nice south-westerly swell.
With the sun shining, conditions were just about perfect for this first event. A big big up to the SIC Maui team for trusting us and allowing us to organise this event together. See you soon for the final on 6 and 7 July at Pointe de la Torche, where I hope you’ll enjoy great conditions, another day of topquality surfing and, above all, sharing, good vibes and smiles! "
